Community meals that are free or pay what you can (PWYC).

Fairfield Gonzales Community Association

Second and last Friday of each month, 4pm to 5:30pm

Every second and last Friday of the month (except for July, August, September, & January) families and individuals can take home a nutritious and delicious home-cooked meal. There is no need to pre-register. Meals will be available while supplies last on a first come, first served basis. Cost is by donation: suggested $5 for an individual, $10 for a family, or $15 for community support (to help keep on serving low-income families as food prices increase).

Fernwood Neighbourhood Resource Group

Monday, 5pm to 6pm

We are serving our community meal on Mondays. We will be able to serve the first 80 people. There is a vegetarian and sometimes a meat option. We will unfortunately be unable to accommodate any other special or dietary requests.

Please bring your own takeout containers if you would like to take the meal to go. We will be eating outside whenever the weather permits, near the gym at the back of the Fernwood Community Centre.

Cost: by donation, no one turned away.

James Bay Community Project

Thursday, 1pm to 3pm

The Seniors Social Connections group meets weekly to share a light meal and engage in social time or activities (guest speaker or games). Between meetings, members can be telephoned by the facilitator or a program volunteer, if they request a reminder.

This group is a support to seniors who may be experiencing health concerns, isolation, or depression, and seeks to encourage friendships and connections outside the group meeting times.

Soup & Play is a free, weekly gathering time offering a simple meal and an opportunity to play and connect with other families. Open to all families in the neighbourhood with children up to age 12. It is where we meet critical need, where we get to know each induvial accessing our services, and where we offer options and access to even more intentional life-changing Salvation Army programming. The Soup Kitchen

Soup-to-go meal service: Each bag is packed with healthy, protein-rich ingredients including hot soup (made fresh every morning), a meat and cheese-filled sandwich, yogurt, and a hard-boiled egg. Two fruits, a sweet, bottled water, and hot tea or coffee completes each meal.

Our free drop-in runs every Thursday from 10am-noon, with a healthy breakfast, playroom for the little ones, and a parent and child craft project. We also offer Food Skills for Families, Mother Goose, Nobody’s Perfect, Triple P, and a variety of fun and interactive workshops for our community parents.

Youth Empowerment Society

The Alliance Club is a drop-in centre for youth 13 to 19 years old. Services include hot meals for sit-in or take away and snack bags with a juice box, fruit, granola bar, chips, and baked good.
